Reference is made to "What's In a Name?" What "it's" name is is really not so important as just what is to be accomplished and will we know when "it" has been accomplished. Does "it" mean:
a. humans are returning to orbital space?
b. humans are returning to space beyond earth orbit?
c. humans are being sent to wherever it is commercially viable to go?
d. earth- and space-based science research about the universe (and beyond?) is being carried out?
e. which people are going into space: NASA astronauts, U.S. and "foreign" citizens, members of the military, students/teachers, entrepreneurs, construction workers, etc., and why are they going?
f. a sustainable set of steps or occurrences that evolve as economics, political will, discoveries, technologies, and other factors and circumstances allow or dictate?
Many more characteristics of "it" can be identified. However, if what we call "it" is deemed most important for any future in space, I fear we may never get off the ground or be significantly hobbled by good intentions!

It already has a good name, Ares, God of War.

Apparently some evangelical creationist bush administration political appointee must have thought it would be a 'cute' NAM, since clearly Americans love g0d and wor, and g0d loves wor as well, apparently.

Enough With The Names!!

Don't we all remember how the ISS got it's name? Many people don't know that it's (official??) name is Alpha, there was a long dispute about what to call it and finally I think it was Bill Shepherd who said Space Station Alpha when he got up there, and no one corrected him.

We are probably going to see many names attached to the program - it is going to evolve a LOT and the most important question is: will it be funded enough to continue?

Maybe we should just call it Bravo?
