Clark’s campaign doesn’t get it

In preparation for my Space Review article about the positions of the Democratic presidential candidates on space, I contacted, but did not hear from, the Wesley Clark campaign. Much to my surprise, I did get an email from them Sunday morning. However, it was clear that the campaign hadn’t read my message asking for their positions on space issues…

The first, key paragraph read like this:

Thank you for writing about some of the important environmental issues
that our country now faces. My environment plan is designed to enforce
the clean air and water laws, hold companies accountable for the toxic
waste they produce, and protect public lands such as the Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge. I will also restore America’s commitment
to clean energy and protection against global warming, which was lost
when the Bush Administration walked away from the Kyoto Accords. If
you would like more information on my positions, please visit the
environment section of out website at
http://clark04.com/issues/environment/

If you go to the web site in question, you’ll find plenty of information on environmental issues, but, as you might expect, nothing about space. So is this a simple gaffe by the Clark campaign, or something worse?
