Calling all students

Alex Hanna, a student at Embry Riddle and the “political officer” for Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS), asked me to post the following letter about some upcoming plans for SEDS’ National Action Network (NAN):

I am a member of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS). During the SEDS national conference at MIT this year, I personally formed a subgroup within SEDS called the Nation Action Network (NAN), meant to be the “political arm” of SEDS.

I am certainly no politician and have little political experience. However, my motivation lays within the fact that Space exploration will never get off the ground unless we begin to take hold of our own destiny and our own Congress. This relates to the fact that the space program needs an influx of contributions from all walks of life. Not just the sciences and engineering, but in business, politics, marketing, and entertainment. The political front is simply one that the members of SEDS feel they can make the most difference. While SEDS is a student organization, the NAN is open to anyone and everyone who wants to help ensure the survival of America’s space industry. Now, as the political officer of SEDS, I would like to personally ask for your help in our newfound efforts.

Tuesday, December 7, at 9:00pm EST the SEDS – NAN will be having its first meeting. It will be held in the SEDS online chat room, accessible through http://www.seds.org/chat/. The meeting will be in the General Chat channel. At the meeting, we will be formulating a mission statement and business plan for the coming year. If you are interested in being a part of the National Action Network, or have any ideas or suggestions for the project, please attend the meeting. If you cannot attend this meeting, there will be an email account set up in the name of the SEDS-NAN very soon, and you can join in then. I hope to see many of you this Tuesday and have a wonderful Holiday!

Sincerely,
Alexander J. Hanna
