New Republican candidate in TX22 and NASA

After months of legal wrangling in the wake of Tom DeLay’s decision to retire from Congress failed to get his name replaced on the November ballot, Republicans in the 22nd District in Texas have finally settled on a single write-in candidate to compete against Democrat Nick Lampson: Houston city councilwoman Shelley Sekula-Gibbs. And, in a Houston Chronicle article, Sekula-Gibbs sought to demonstrate her credentials on national issues, including one very near and dear to those in the district: “I have been here over 20 years. I have worked hard to support NASA. I’ve traveled to Washington multiple times to support the full funding of NASA,” she told the Chronicle.

I’m not too familiar with her political track record, but she’s a fine dermatologist.

Side note: during a previous marriage she appeared on ballots as Sekula-Rodriguez. She’s the same person now, just with a different husband.

Dr Sekula-Gibbs may be a good dermatologist but people I know say that you wait months for an appointment. They think she is always off doing her Houston City Council/political stuff.

She is the widow of popular TV celebrity Sylvan Rodriquez, who has a new-ish park named after him not too far from the Johnson Space Center.
