In Canada’s federal elections yesterday, Marc Garneau, the first Canadian astronaut, won a seat in Parliament representing the Westmount-Ville-Marie riding in the Montreal area. Garneau, a Liberal, is succeeding a retiring liberal MP, Lucienne Robillard, who had won the previous four elections there. Overall, however, the Liberal party lost seats in Parliament, although the ruling Conservative party failed to secure a majority.
