There’s nothing that focusing the mind quite like a deadline—in this case, the impending arrival of Hurricane Sandy and likely power outages in the Washington, DC area that will ensue. With that in mind, I’ve pushed out a long-overdue redesign. Feel free to pass along any comments here or by email (jeff AT spacepolitics DOT com). Space policy posts will resume as weather/power/Internet connectivity permits…
As I noted on the other thread…I like it. Stay dry RGO
Sandy was pretty much a non-event when it passed us last week. Just some beach erosion and scatter power outages.

As I mentioned on a less appropriate blog topic, it looks nice but is not as “space efficient” as the previous version. It feels like I have to scroll lots more, and less text shows up on my screen.
The color scheme is pleasing, but otherwise I think it’s a step backwards for viewers.
Oh, and I see you have added an ad space – to be expected these days.
Hope you are surviving as well as I am
Question – how are you selecting the picture for the top?
Much more readable.
Nice update Jeff and easier on the eyes too.
Here in upstate NY Sandy’s giving us her winds and fine rain drops which would be snow if it was November instead of October.
Stay dry folks!
I like it. The type is bigger for us old folk to read.
Jeff,
Works better. Everything is bigger! while that means less lines per page, it works for my old tired eyes.
And I”m glad you dropped the image of the Space Shuttle at the pad in favor of Dragon! Reflects the times we live in.
Great blog.
Great comments
Lots of great insight and data too.
…and where has Major Tom been? Anyone?
Love the new look Jeff! It is very modern. I would recommend however that the right column that holds the navigation be narrower as much of its width is white space. Narrowing this column would allow the main column to be widened and lead to less vertical scrolling fatigue.
Second the ‘space’ issue that CR raised. If posters manage to restrain themselves then it will be an improvement however if not …!
Nice job, Jeff.
Yeah, didn’t want to acknowledge that but it’s a definitely lot easier on the eyes.
Not Sure, Much easier to read, but kind of liked the old one better( ask me again in a few years when the eyes have gone then I might change my answer.). Definatly not bad tho.
Pro: Much more readable font, thanks.
Con: The right (links) column is much too wide, leaving too little space for the original post and comments.
This old man can actually read the site now. Thanks, Jeff.

While you’re in a changing mood, Jeff, I’d like to request you turn on the feature for us to embed images. I fully understand why you’d *not* want to do that, but I thought I’d ask anyway.
The picture of Dragon on the page banner is a sad substitute for the old picture of the Orion spacecraft.
amightywind: hit the refresh button a few times.
like! much more readable.
I applaud the effort, and the white background, but agree with the right column comments. I had to refresh a few times to GET to the Dragon banner, which should be the default instead of that mythical SLS…
Jeff, as long as you keep on reporting, I’ll keep reading.
Very nice redesign Jeff. I like the large typeface and the layout. Thanks for all your good work in tracking space policy issues.
Capability to edit messages after posting even for a short period would be a real help, whether by login or cookie.
Hi Pathfinder –
“ask me again in a few years when the eyes have gone then I might change my answer.”
“Definatly”
Getting old is a bear, but it is much better than the alternative.
Default came up with too large text, but solved it by clicking view, zoom out to get a readable size more to my liking. Looks good, but now an awful lot of white space. Using the page down key instead of scrolling down is more efficient. The only real criticism I have is the political ad on the upper right to go to the Mitt Romney web site. Well, 6 more days and that source of ad revenue will dry up.

Newsflash: Dragon is flying to and from the ISS while Orion, where is that? Oh yes. In a garage somewhere where it’s been for how long – 6 years and counting IRRC. LOL
Just a thought, a ‘Return to top’ link would be useful rather than having to scroll all the way up.
Great Site Jeff.
I love the redesign. Simple and elegant.
