Bolden and Garver confirmed by the Senate

The US Senate confirmed Wednesday evening the nominations of Charles Bolden and Lori Garver as NASA administrator and deputy administrator, respectively. Acting on unanimous consent—which allows the Senate to expedite the process provided no one objects—the Senate confirmed the two early Wednesday evening. In today’s fractured media world, it’s no surprise that many found out about the confirmation in a series of tweets by Sen. Bill Nelson (or a staffer acting on his behalf), Bolden’s biggest backer in the Senate. “Charlie Bolden just confirmed by Senate as nation’s new space czar,” said the senator in one tweet. “He’s perfect to keep America leading in space, science and technology.”

A “senior administration official” told the Orlando Sentinel that Bolden and Garver could officially start work within a week.
